Greenfields Press publishes philosophical non-fiction for professionals at significant moments in their working lives. Our books are short, carefully written, and concerned with questions that most professional literature either avoids or oversimplifies. Before submitting, please read what follows and look at the titles we have already published. The fit has to be right for both of us.
What we publish
The Path series addresses the interior experience of professional life: the freelancer establishing a practice, the agency founder building an organisation, the coach developing their craft, the executive inhabiting a demanding role, the leader understanding what leadership actually asks, the person entering retirement navigating a profound transition. We are interested in proposals that share this quality of honest, sustained reflection on professional experience.
We are not a general business publisher. We do not publish frameworks, methodologies, or productivity systems. We are interested in books that take professional life seriously as a subject for genuine thought, and that are written with the care and restraint that serious thought requires.
If you are unsure whether your proposal fits, the most useful question to ask is: does this book say something true and difficult about the experience it describes, in a way that a thoughtful professional would find genuinely useful to read?
How to submit
Send an email to submissions@greenfieldspress.com with the subject line: Submission — [working title].
Include the following, in the body of the email rather than as attachments where possible:
A description of the book in no more than fifty words. Not a summary of its contents but an account of what it is for and who it is written for. If the idea cannot be stated clearly in fifty words, it is unlikely to be ready for submission.
A sample of the writing, ideally a complete chapter or a substantial section of one. We assess proposals primarily on the quality of the prose. A strong outline with weak sample writing will not progress.
A brief note on your background and your relationship to the subject. We do not require formal credentials, but we do require that you have thought carefully about the territory the book covers and that the writing reflects that thinking.
Please do not send WeTransfer links, large file attachments, or unsolicited full manuscripts.
How long will it take
We are a small press and review submissions carefully. You should expect to wait up to eight weeks for a response. If you have not heard from us after eight weeks, a brief follow-up is welcome. We read everything we receive.
On royalties and terms
We offer royalties on all titles we publish. The specific terms depend on the project and are discussed once we have expressed interest in a proposal. We do not ask authors to contribute financially to the cost of publication.
If we are unable to publish your work
A decision not to publish is not a judgement on the quality of the writing. It reflects whether the proposal is the right fit for what Greenfields Press publishes at this moment. The range of what we publish is deliberately narrow, and most submissions, however good, will fall outside it. We try to respond to every submission, however briefly.
